ABOUT

Everything here was built in our own business first.

We rebuild the work your team does by hand into systems you own. The story below is our own company, and the five builds under it are real, with the numbers left in.

THE STORY

Jacob Bytom has been building and running ecommerce businesses since 2008. His own brands, a distribution group, an agency, and over $100m of goods sold across them.

A few years ago the biggest of them, a thirty-year-old distribution business, was bleeding cash and close to going under. What changed was the operation. Stock sync, catalogue enrichment, support triage, pricing sweeps and finance reconciliation were built as owned systems, each one with a person supervising it. Overheads fell by roughly two thirds and the business went back to profit.

Those are the same systems we build for clients now. Eighteen thousand SKUs still run on them, without a data-entry team.

Jacob does the work himself. No junior bench, no offshore delivery team, no account manager between you and the person building it. One person building it is also a risk, so everything ships documented, in your accounts, with your team trained on it. If he vanished tomorrow your systems would keep running and any competent developer could pick them up from the runbook.

"This isn't about chatbots or prompts. It's the boring, expensive machinery of a real company, and owning it instead of renting it."

CASE NOTES

Five things we built, and what each one replaced.

Not case studies with the figures scrubbed out. These are tools that exist, built inside our own group and for clients. Client work is anonymised. The numbers are not. None of them needed a clever demo or a big team. Each started with one job somebody was doing by hand, over and over.

The inventory and pricing command centre

INTERNAL

One tool running a 10,000-product catalogue across nine stores on a schedule: live stock, sales velocity, competitor prices, margins and reorder signals.

REPLACED · A £40k/yr inventory platform, a planning tool, competitor trackers, and part of a senior buyer's week.

RESULT · Three rented tools and a salary chunk became one owned tool on a few pounds a month of hosting.

Three storefronts, one codebase

INTERNAL

B2C, B2B wholesale and a third brand served from one codebase, with month-end P&L syncing straight from Xero.

REPLACED · The same change made three times in three places, and the wait on the bookkeeper.

RESULT · A price change ships once. Month-end close takes about fifteen minutes.

The competitor and site audit, built as a tool

CLIENT

A full site and competitor audit for a plumbing and heating firm, built as software rather than a document: a nine-page research report and an eleven-sheet workbook, repeatable for the next client.

REPLACED · A £3k to £5k agency audit and the weeks of waiting that come with it.

RESULT · Delivered the same day, deeper than the agency version, because the research ran itself overnight.

Product photography without the studio

CLIENT

A tool that turns one mannequin photo into realistic on-model shots, front, side and back, export ready.

REPLACED · A £2k to £5k photoshoot every time new stock landed.

RESULT · New stock photographed in minutes instead of on a booked studio day.

The daily bake list

CLIENT

Make-to-order food business. Daily orders consolidate into one bake list: flavours, quantities, bake order, allergen labels printed.

REPLACED · Hours of daily manual consolidation, and a SaaS that wanted a few hundred pounds a month, forever.

RESULT · About ten hours a week back, and no monthly fee, because the tool is theirs.

HOW WE OPERATE

Five rules. All of them checkable.

01

Grounded in your numbers, not hunches

Every recommendation traces to a figure from your business. If we can't measure it, we say so instead of inventing it.

02

Humans decide. Machines execute.

Every system ships with an approval gate on money, an escalation path for anything it has not seen before, and an audit trail on all of it.

03

You own everything we build

Code, workflows, documentation, credentials. In your accounts, under your logins. Nothing rented in our name.

04

Time-boxed, priced on the page

Two-week audits. Sprints live inside a month at entry scope. Prices published. Scope in writing.

05

No theatre

No keynotes, no certificates, no strategy decks. Something runs at the end, or we don't take the work.

THE REFUSALS

What we won't automate.

Anyone selling "automate everything" hasn't run anything. It works because we write down what a machine does and what a person signs before we build anything. That line goes in the engagement letter, not in a slide.

  • Final decisions on money, people or price. The machine prepares the decision, a person makes it.
  • Anything a customer sees, until we have run it silently alongside a person for long enough to trust it.
  • Anything somebody has to put their name to. The machine drafts, a person signs.
  • Regulated advice. We build systems, not legal, medical or financial opinions.
  • Anything where the cost of an error is bigger than the cost of the labour.

Two weeks, fixed price. We map every process a person still operates, price it per year, and rank it by payback. Most of the businesses we do this for turn over £1m to £20m, and the owner is still in the inbox.
